Office of the Prime Minister opens doors to public

The Office of the Prime Minister was on display at the Government Information Referral Centre (GIRC) to provide a better understanding to the public on the work of the office for six days last week.
Despite the rainy and chilly conditions more that 300 people visited the booth with majority gathering information in what way they can partner Government in building a better Fiji for all.
The Office has seven units under it that carries out the various functions and programmes that supports the Prime Minister’s activities.
The unit includes the Strategic Framework for Change and Coordinating Office, Poverty Eradication Unit, Development Co-operation and Facilitation Division (this includes Rotuma, Kioa and Rabi), Cabinet, Private Office, Policy Analysis Unit and Administration and Accounts section.
The week-long display at GIRC (former Fiji Visitors Bureau) shed light on how these offices function and operate towards the mission and vision of the Prime Minister’s Office.
The guiding documents that all the units channelled towards are the 11 pillars of the People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress and the 37 outcomes of the Roadmap to Democracy and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development.

According to the exhibition committee chairman OPM Deputy Secretary Mr Nemani Mati, the exhibition also provided hands on approach from members of the staff to be able to understand functions of other units under the ministry.
“Since we are located in different areas this is an opportunity for our staff members to come together as a unit and better understand each others’ roles,” Mr Mati said.
While five units are located in the new wing and Administration side of the Government Buildings, SFCCO is located at the Paliament complex and PEU is at Berkley Crescent off Cakobau Road.
“The turn-out was encouraging despite the weather, it is obvious that people understood Government intent from 2009-2014,” he said.
“People are now more aware of opportunities out there especially resource owners who in the past did not realise the potential and how they can benefit from their heritance.
There was also an Outdoor Broadcast programme hosted by the Fiji Broadcasting Commission in the three main languages.
There were also footage of developments and major announcements by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama viewed at the booth.
